Two Fortitude Valley police officers have saved nine ducklings after discovering them stranded in a stormwater drain in the inner-city suburb of Spring Hill.
A Surprising Discovery

The incident occurred on Tuesday while Constables Dalton Philippa and Mason Smith were performing routine patrols along the northern busway. The officers’ attention was drawn to a single, tiny duckling wandering alone on the road. Their curiosity led them to investigate further, and they soon heard the distinct chirping of more ducklings coming from a nearby drain.
The Rescue Mission
Upon realising the small birds were trapped, the officers quickly began a rescue operation. One constable reached deep into the drain, carefully retrieving the eight stranded ducklings one by one. The rescued birds were then gathered and placed into a shopping bag to ensure their safety and warmth. The officers reported that the ducklings were calm throughout the rescue.
Handover to RSPCA
Following the successful rescue, all nine ducklings were transported to the RSPCA for care and assessment. A police statement confirmed that efforts are now underway to locate the mother duck and reunite the family.
