The MV Melbidir was a Queensland Government passenger and cargo vessel built in 1973 to transport passengers and cargo from Thursday Island to the outer Torres Strait Islands. She could carry 157 tons general cargo and 11 tons refrigerated cargo. This was the fourth vessel named Melbidir operated by the Queensland Government to serve the Torres Strait Islands and Northern Peninsula Area. She was sold in 1988 to the Falkland Islands Government and renamed Southern Star.
