The Blacktip Rockcod can be recognised by the dark tips to the spinous dorsal fin. The species occurs in tropical marine waters of the Indo-Pacific.

T C Marshall was the Government Ichthyologist at that time and had an active involvement in government publications regarding the identification of Queensland fishes.
