John Murtagh Macrossan was the 16th Chief Justice of Queensland from 1989 to 1998. He was also Chancellor of Griffith University from 1988 to 2000.

His uncles Hugh Denis Macrossan and Neal William Macrossan were also Chief Justices of Queensland.

Margaret McMurdo was the first woman to be appointed to the bench of the District Court of Queensland in 1991. She was appointed president of the Queensland Court of Appeal in 1998 and retired in 2016.
