J D Story Administration Building was designed by University of Queensland Staff Architect James Birrell. It is named after John Douglas Story, a prominent Queensland public servant who worked for the establishment of the University.

Gunboats Gayundah and Paluma, Bundaberg, 1899

HMQS Paluma and HMQS Gayundah were flat-iron gunboats of the Queensland Maritime Defence Force. They entered service in 1884 and passed to the Commonwealth Naval Forces in 1901. This photograph is taken after the 1899 refit when Gayundah carried two QF 12-pounder guns.

Paluma was decommissioned in 1916 and worked as the harbour tender Rip in Melbourne before being scrapped in 1950.

Gayundah was decommissioned in 1921 and served as sand and gravel barge in Brisbane. In 1958 she was sold to Redcliffe Town Council and beached as a breakwater at Woody Point.

Governor Sir Alan Mansfield opening of the 38th Parliament, Brisbane, 2 August 1966

Sir Alan Mansfield was Lieutenant-Governor of Queensland on several occasions during his time as Chief Justice. He was appointed Governor in 1966 and retired in 1972. The suburb of Mansfield in south east Brisbane is named after him.

The 38th Parliament was opened on 2 August 1966 following the election on 25 May.
