Before paper tickets and go cards, Edmondson railway tickets (named after their inventor Thomas Edmondson, who introduced them in the 1840s) were stocked in the thousands at every station. Each ticket was pre-numbered and date stamped when issued.

Civil Defence display at RNA Exhibition, August 1965

Something you don’t see at the Ekka any more, a display on the effects of nuclear war and how to survive it. Founded in 1961, the Queensland Civil Defence Organisation was set up to deal with emergencies in the event of a nuclear war. From 1975 it became the Queensland State Emergency Service with a greater emphasis on natural disasters.

The Queensland State Emergency Service was founded in 1975. It evolved from the Queensland Civil Defence Organisation which was set up in 1961 to deal with emergencies in the event of a nuclear war. The Civil Defence Organisation was activated in November 1973 following the Brisbane tornado and during the 1974 floods. The Queensland State Emergency Service was established because there was a need for a service that was capable of dealing with natural disasters .

VIP aircraft at Ingham, 2 July 1979

Queensland Government Beech 200 Super King Air and Royal Australian Air Force Hawker Siddeley HS 748 at Ingham Airport. They had brought Premier Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen and Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser for the opening of the Lucinda deep water port.
