TWEED RETAINS ITS POPULARITY
Boxing Day broke gloriously fine, and the beaches at Rainbow Bay, Greenmount, and Kirra were crowded during the morning, full advantage being taken of the sunshine. In the after noon there was light rain. The crowds on the beaches appeared to be larger than in previous years. A treasure hunt on Kirra Beach attracted a large number of children.
Many holiday-makers walked to Point Danger, Razorback, and other vantage spots from which to view the scenery.
Light rain at night did not deter young people from visiting various carnivals and attending either pictures or dance halls, which were again filled to capacity. Trains for Brisbane this afternoon took back a large contingent of holiday-makers who are due at work to-morrow.

TALLEBUDGERA CREEK OYSTERS
In order to avoid any misunderstand between the lessee of the oyster area in Tallebudgera Creek and the general public the Chief Inspector of Fisheries (Mr. C. Dick) notified the local progress association to the effect that the public are privileged to.consume as many oysters as they desire on he spot, and on any portions of the oyster beds at present leased for 14 years to a resident of the district (Mr. J. Kenny). The public are reminded that to take away oysters from the beds in question in the shell of in containers is unlawful, and which applies not only to the lease mentioned, but from any public oyster reserve or any Crown land

ROSEWOOD
Approval has been given for a Light Horse training centre lo be opened at Rosewood under Lieutenant A. N. Munro. of Lowood. Five new recruits have enlisted with ‘he infantry platoon.
The death occurred recently of Mr. William Yarrow, the 25-year-old son of Mr. S. Yarrow, of Rosewood and the late Mr. William Yarrow. He had been ill for two years. The funeral took place to Tallegalla cemetery.
The death has occurred of Mr. Frederick Strudwlck at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. Clayton, of Tajlegalla. The funeral took, place to Tallegalla cemetery.

ISISFORD
Owing to swollen rivers and creeks and the consequent inability of several councillors to visit town, the February meeting of the shire council was postponed.
Whilst cycling over the Anzac Bridge Harold Hooper, 12, youngest son of Mr T. Hooper, somersaulted with his bicycle into the Barcoo River. Due to his swimming ability he was able to reach the bank in safety, and, after recovering from the shock, he retrieved his bicycle from the river bed.

Sandgate Shark-Proof Enclosure Completed
Work on the new shark proof fence at Sandgate was completed to-day and the enclosure is now in use.
Next week a start will be made with the flood lighting for the Christmas and New Year holidays.
The enclosure provides a safe bathing area of twelve and a half acres.

Improvements To Stock Routes
Kilcoy-Brisbane Valley district committee of the Graziers’ Association has requested Moreton Shire Council (Ipswich) to repair the Brisbane Valley stock route, from the junction of the old Glenmorgan Road over Ironbark Range to McGuinness’ dip, on the north-east side of the bitumen road.
Esk Shire Council has been ask ed if the reserve at Wivenhoe Bridge (por. 55) Is not open to travelling stock, could an easement be granted through this portion, this being the only suitable crossing near the bridge.

BURLEIGH IMPROVEMENTS
Recently the Nerang Shire Council (No. 4 division) applied for a subsidised loan for the erection of a modern surf shed at Burleigh Heads, and the preparation of a bowling green, tennis and croquet lawn. II is understood that the Government is favourable to the subsidised loan for a surf shed, but with regard to the bowling green, etc., it will only approve of a Treasury loan without subsidy.
