The Redlands Research Station was established by the Queensland Government in 1948 to research better methods of vegetable production. The role later expanded to include fodder crops, poultry, turf and ornamental plants.

Nicholas and Edward Fitzgerald opened a brewery in in Castlemaine, Victoria in 1877, brewing a product called XXX Sparkling Ale.

Patrick Perkins started the Perkins Brewery in Toowoomba in 1866 and extended operations to Brisbane in 1872 with the purchase of the City Brewery.

The Perkins Brewery bought by the Castlemaine Brewery in 1928.

The XXXX Brewery was listed as one of the Q150 icons in 2009.

Brisbane Produce Markets, Rocklea, December 1970

Brisbane’s first Central Market began in 1868 in a Brisbane Municipal Council built shed on the corner of Charlotte and Eagle Streets. It closed in 1881 due to poor patronage.

In 1885, the Council opened the purpose-built Municipal Market in Roma Street, beside the railway station.

Due to increasing congestion, the State Government agreed to move the Central Market to Rocklea in 1964.
