“Freezer” Ships
Eleven “freezer” ships have been fixed to load meat, dairy produce and other cold store foodstuffs between now and June 30 at Brisbane, Cairns, Townsville, Bowen, Port Alma and Glasttone.
Three of the ships – the Tekoa, Port Townsville and Northumberland – are now loading in Queensland ports.

The new Longreach base hospital was approved in 1935 and expected to cost £12,500. Construction did not commence until 1939 and due to the outbreak of WW2 and the shortage of materials was not completed until February 1944. The eventual cost was £70,000.

The 1250 class locomotives were built by the English Electric Company of Australia at Rocklea, Brisbane for the Queensland Railways between 1959 and 1963.

The Queensland International Exhibition, held from 22 March to 28 July 1897, showcased Queensland’s agricultural and mineral wealth to the public. This included a a cake of retorted gold from Gympie weighing 2,679 oz.
Some of the exhibits later went to the the Greater Britain Exhibition in London in 1899 and the Glasgow International Exhibition in 1901.

Stirling Henry Limited was originally a Sydney importing warehouse. It branched out into textile manufacturing in the 1920s. A new factory was opened in Whinstanes in 1948.
