SS Moreton Bay was built in 1921 for the Australian Commonwealth Line, operating between London and Brisbane. She was sold to the White Star Line in 1938 and continued in the same service. In 1939 she was requisitioned by the Royal Australian Navy and converted to an armed merchant cruiser and in 1941 converted to a troop ship. She took part in the North Africa and European campaigns and reverted to commercial service in 1946. Her final voyage was in 1956 and she was scrapped in April 1957.

Urangan Pier was built between 1913 and 1917. It was originally 1107 metres long. The last ship docked in January 1985 and the pier was closed. Later that year it was transferred from the Department of Harbour and Marine to Hervey Bay City Council. It is now listed on the Fraser Coast Regional Council Local Heritage Register.

Apprentice assembling electric motor stator at English Electric Company, Rocklea, 11 July 1969

The English Electric Company of Australia Pty Ltd established a factory in the Brisbane suburb of Rocklea in 1956 to build locomotives for Queensland and other states. It also built a large amount of electrical equipment for Queensland electricity generation. In 1970 it became the General Electric Company of Australia.

Charles Morrison Pickering's certificate of qualification to apply for land, 14 July 1919

Charles Morrison Pickering was a Brisbane tram driver who joined the Australian Imperial Force on 28 August 1914. He served as a gunner and driver with 7th Battery, 3rd Field Artillery Brigade, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant in 1917. He returned to Australia in September 1918 and was discharged in June 1919. He became one of the first soldier settlers at The Gap and and became a dairy farmer.

Dairy Science School Completes First Week Of Instruction

The School of Advanced Dairy Science which is being conducted at the Department of Agriculture and Stock, has now completed a week full of activities. It will be continued until the end of the month.

During the first week the students, under the direction of the Chief Research Officer of the Dairy Research Laboratory (Mr. O. Kent) and other officers of the department concentrated on dairying bacteriology and attended both lectures and practical demonstrations in the laboratory. The lectures on this subject were interspersed with lectures of general agricultural Interest which included one on pastoral pests which was given by Mr. Weddell (entomologist).

The programme for the school includes visits to industrial places of interest, to tho students, and so far they have visited the abattoir and Gill’s model dairy at Eagle Farm, On Monday the students
