COLLECTIONS ON SATURDAY. Queensland’s Patriotic Day.

Collectors for Patriotic Day are notified that the collection boxes will be available for distribution from the committee’s room in the Town Hall to-morrow, Friday, from 2 p.m., unless other arrangements have already been made. Each of the boxes bears the official stamp of tho Queensland patriotic fund, or Red Cross Society, and the number of the box, and is sealed.

Collectors will also be supplied with an official badge, and a card ol authority to collect , on behalf of the Queensland patriotic fund; this must .be handed back with the. box before the close of Saturday.

NEW COURTHOUSE FOR HUGHENDEN.

The Department of Public Works is preparing plans for n new court house at Hughenden, and the project 1ms liven referred to the Co-ordinator of Public Works for inclusion In the draft programme of loan building works to be carried out during the financial year, 1945-46. Writing to Mr. R. Jones. M.L.A. who had approached the Minister on behalf of the Hughenden branch of the A.L.P.. Mr. H. A. Bruce stated that it bad been stressed lo the Co-ordinator General that the work was a matter of urgency as the present building wag not only beyond use. but was in a dangerous condition

Portrait of Judge Macrossan Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, 7 June 1989

John Murtagh Macrossan was the 16th Chief Justice of Queensland from 1989 to 1998. He was also Chancellor of Griffith University from 1988 to 2000.

His uncles Hugh Denis Macrossan and Neal William Macrossan were also Chief Justices of Queensland.
