Road Safety For Queen
Brisbane, Fri. – Australia’s most intensive safety campaign will be launched during the Royal Tour, the Australian Road Safety Council chairman, Mr T. G. Paterson, said.
All possible advertising means in all States will drive home the theme: “Let courtesy reign on the Queen’s highway.”
Mr Paterson said the Royal tour was a “glorious opportunity for the council to achieve a permanent improvement in behaviour.”
He said: “During February and March, practically every able-bodied Australian, and every available motor vehicle will be congregating along the Royal route.
“Our traffic authorities will have to contend with bigger crowds than they have ever handled before. We expect greater congestion and more acute accident risk than on any previous occasion.”
The council hoped that “the stimulus of national rejoicing might be harnessed so that people expressed their happiness in a practical way, by treating their fellow road users more courteously.”
