UNPRECEDENTED RAINS AT STANWELL.
The weather on Saturday in Rockhampton was very hot and muggy, and in the evening there occurred one of the longest thunderstorms ever experienced in the town. The rainfall, however, was not extraordinary, the register for the twenty-four hours ended at nine o’clock yesterday morning being only 4.24 in. But in the Gracemere, Malchi, and Stanwell districts unparalleled weather was experienced. The storm seems to have broken over the districts early on Saturday morning, and the rainfall may without exaggeration be compared to a waterspout. The information to hand is as yet meagre. A gentleman who was in town on Saturday stated that Gracemere Lagoon was higher than has been known for years, and at the time he left had risen 2 ft. since the early morning.
