The Mackay Harbour Board office building was designed by architect Russell Gibbins. It passed into the ownership of North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation Limited in 2009. While it met some of the criteria to be listed on the Queensland Heritage Register, due to being surrounded by bulk petrol, diesel and sulphuric acid tanks the building could no longer be used and a decision was taken in 2011 that it would not be heritage listed.
