TRAINS RACE AGAINST FLOOD WATERS IN BURDEKIN RIVER

Goods and mail trains in North Queensland to-day raced flood waters, which are expected to cover the Burdekin River bridge to-night. Falls of up to three inches have been registered in the Burdekin catchment areas. Two mail trains from Townsville were dispatched several yours earlier than their normal times. Goods train schedules between Bowen and Townsville were arranged to enable as many trains as possible to cross the bridge before nightfall. Five goods trains from Bowen to Townsville and seven from Townsville crossed the bridge to-day.
