People living in Brisbane’s inner city will have a unique opportunity to speak privately with flight path designers about how aircraft noise is managed in their neighbourhood, as the first in a series of one-on-one community sessions takes place in the heart of the CBD.

First Session Lands at City Hall

The opening session of a region-wide consultation begins on Saturday, 19 July at Brisbane City Hall – Kedron Room, running from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Organised by Airservices Australia, the session is part of the broader Noise Action Plan for Brisbane, which focuses on easing the noise caused by air traffic over local communities.

Residents can book a 20-minute private appointment with a flight path specialist to go over the latest proposals, ask specific questions, and share their experiences. The engagement team will document each conversation to help inform future decisions. Those unable to attend the meeting at City Hall can participate in the consultation online.

Background to the Consultation

The citywide review follows widespread concern over noise levels since the addition of Brisbane Airport’s second runway in 2020. The new runway led to shifts in air traffic, leaving some suburbs — including parts of the inner city — facing more frequent and concentrated flyovers.

In 2024, Airservices began early engagement with the community and aviation stakeholders to explore possible changes. After reviewing submissions and conducting technical assessments, it worked with aviation consultants Trax International to prepare a set of preferred flight path options aimed at reducing the impact on the most affected suburbs.

These new options are now being put to the public, with Brisbane City’s meeting being the first in a series running across July.

What to Expect from the City Hall Event

Each meeting is individually booked and designed to provide residents with a focused space to raise their concerns and explore how proposed changes may impact their area. Locals are encouraged to bring up to three others with them and will be supported with maps and information packs during the session.

A pre-recorded webinar will also be made available to help people review the information before or after their appointment. Appointments can be secured through the Humanitix booking system, and online sessions are open to anyone who can’t attend in person.

More Sessions Across the City

Brisbane City is the first stop in a broader rollout of consultation sessions happening in locations such as Ashgrove, Albany Creek, North Lakes, Samford Village and Greenbank. The aim is to collect thorough local feedback before final decisions are made about flight paths in and out of Brisbane Airport.

Feedback from the public will remain open until 17 August 2025, and all insights gathered during these sessions will play a role in shaping how Brisbane’s skies are managed into the future.
