The Supreme Court of Queensland was founded on 7 August 1861, with the assent of the Supreme Court Constitution Amendment Act 1861 (Qld). Two subsequent pieces of legislation, including the Additional Judge Act 1862 (Qld) and the Supreme Court Act 1863 (Qld), were also necessary to establish the court’s operating system.

Prior to separation of Queensland from New South Wales, the former naval officer, Captain John Clements Wickham, tried minor crimes in the Moreton Bay District. More serious cases were tried at the Supreme Court of New South Wales in Sydney. Two years before separation from New South Wales, the Moreton Bay Supreme Court Act 1857 (NSW) established the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court of New South Wales in the Moreton Bay District and Samuel Milford served as Judge. Milford resigned in February 1859, and was replaced by Alfred Lutwyche.

Sarina lies just inland of the east coast of Queensland, 34 kilometres south of the city of Mackay, and approximately 300 kilometres north of the city of Rockhampton. The Bruce Highway passes through the locality from south to north, as does the North Coast railway line.

The town of Sarina is located on Plane Creek, which flows into the Coral Sea, but most of the urban development is on the northern side of the creek. The Bruce Highway and the railway line pass through the town, which is served by the Sarina railway station.

The neighbourhood of Oonooie lies 6.8 km south of the town and is the name of a former railway station on the North Coast line, which was named on 29 April 1915, reportedly after a principal clanswoman of that area.

The Law Courts Complex was constructed on the site of the original Supreme Court building, which had been largely destroyed by arson on 1 September, 1968. The remains of this building were demolished in October, 1976, and construction of the first stage of the complex commenced on the western end of the site. Once completed, this first stage held only the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court was relocated to the second, and larger stage of the complex upon its completion in the early 1980s, while the District Court began to occupy the now vacant first stage soon after.

Petrie is a suburb north of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Its local government area is the Moreton Bay Region. It is in the North Pine River section of its local council 24 kilometres north of Brisbane City. The southern boundary is marked by the North Pine River.

The origin of the suburb name is from an early inhabitant by the name of Tom Petrie. The township was named Petrie after his death. Prior to this, the area was known as North Pine. Tom Petrie was a highly regarded individual in the area through his community work and his cooperation with the local Aboriginal inhabitants.

Petrie is a suburban village with new housing developments on land which was previously used for pine plantations and agriculture. Petrie railway station provides access to regular Queensland Rail City network services to Brisbane and Ipswich, as well as Caboolture and the Sunshine Coast.

When Jimbour Was A Great Station
Historic Old Homestead

No history of Dalby would be complete without more than passing reference to Jimbour, which was a station before there was any settlement on the Downs. It was from Jimbour that Leichardt organised, and thence led forth his first and second expeditions.

In 1840 Richard Scougall sent his trusted superintendent (Henry Dennis) to seek out new country, as his property on the Liverpool Plains was overstocked. In due time Dennis arrived at the northern portion of the Darling Downs and secured Jimbour for Scougall.

The first hut built on the Darling Downs was at Jimbour, and the first stock to depasture were Richard Scougall’s. The first sheep to be shorn were at Jimbour, and the first wool to cross the Toowoomba main range was wool belonging to Scougall.

Xmas and New Year Cards.

Mr. Hugh Millar, manager of Millar’s Book and Stationery Depot, has secured a sample book of celluloid Xmas and New Year cards. In all there are twenty dozen, and no two are alike. These are all handpainted, and the design of every one is exquisite. When Mr. Millar has sample displayed in his show window our readers will agree with us that they are the finest ever seen in Warwick.
